Meet Your Teacher

Hello! My name is Melissa King and I have been teaching for 3 years and I have been lucky enough to teach third grade every year! Prior to teaching I worked as a Fire Prevention Officer for the City of San Bernardino and I loved it! However, I always loved working with children and I felt that something was missing in my job. I decided to go with my childhood dream of being a teacher and pursued my teaching credential from University of Redlands.

I grew up in La Verne with my 4 sisters and my parents. I now live in Yucaipa with my two cats, Igor and Colby and my dog, Roxy. When I have free time, I enjoy visiting my family (whether it be in Portland, Kansas City, San Diego, or La Verne), traveling/camping to the National Parks, hiking, gardening, and spending time at home.

To contact me, you can email me at fyrfyterchick@yahoo.com, call the school, come into the classroom or even send a note with your child.

I am 30 years old, and a graduate of the University of California at San Diego (B.A. in Cognitive Science) and California State University, San Bernardino (Multiple Subject Teaching Credential). I grew up in San Diego, and now live in Fontana with my wife Laurie our two cats and two dogs (and two lizards during the summer!). This is my fourth year of teaching, and I have taught third grade at SOAR since its inception in 2008. I love to work with computers, cook, and listen to a wide variety of music. I am very passionate about protecting our planet and the natural resources we use.

To contact me, you can email me at jwhicks727@gmail.com, or call/text me at 909-229-6282. I am also available to meet you in person before or after school most days.
